Recently getSTEM.com was the beneficiary of a $10,000 gift from Honeywell Hometown Solutions, the community outreach program of Minnesota-based Honeywell Aerospace. So when Honeywell Senior Technical Manager Christine Turner wanted STEM curriculum to share with teachers at a school in Nicaragua that is preparing orphans for college, she knew right where to turn.
Christine posted an “ASK” on getSTEM for STEM curriculum materials she could bring down to Nicaragua when she leaves later this summer. She was then told about an “OFFER” that was posted a few months earlier that would possibly fulfill her request. Christine then found the posting by First Book Marketplace, who had made an offer of free, downloadable STEM educator guides to those serving children in need. She went to their site and downloaded all of the materials, and will be bringing them to Nicaragua with her to share with the teachers who are preparing those young orphans for college.
This is yet another fantastic example of how getSTEM can connect businesses and educators in order to make a difference in the lives of students – not only in Minnesota, but around the world!
