I am a Pathologists' Assistant with the University of Minnesota. My job consists of receiving a surgical specimen (ruptured appendix, colon with tumor, amputation, etc) and choosing 1-20 small sections for the pathologist to examine and make a diagnosis. I also conduct medical autopsies and teach medical residents. My job every day exemplifies the importance of accurate scientific measurements and reports, having a broad range of scientific knowledge, and interacting with many other STEM professionals. There are a lot of niche scientific careers and I would be excited to share a very cool hidden one!

My name is Jared House and I have had the pleasure of working in the aquatic biology field for the past 6 years. I started my career as an intern for Washington County Parks, where I mapped wetlands within Big Marine Park Reserve. Later on, I worked for the DNR assisting in invasive species, waterfowl, and shallow lakes research. Today, I work for a Local Government Unit (Pomme de Terre River Association) that is devoted to improving the water quality within our watershed through the implementation of conservation practices. One of the best parts of my job is assisting classrooms with water related activities. Most of my work is restricted to the boundaries of the watershed, however, some exceptions do apply.
